Review by Joe ★★★
This isn't much of a conclusion to the story, a lot of stuff remains unresolved or unexplained. What's the point of the "friends forced to fight on opposing sides of a war" plot they set up with Rygart and Zess if they just drop it halfway through. As usual with manga adaptations you just get a half-hearted climax and zero prospects of the rest of the story ever getting adapted. I can only recommend Break Blade if you're really craving some real robot tropes in a fantasy mecha setting, it doesn't have much else to offer.

Review by Kyle Gardner ★★★
This is really a TV series of 12 episodes but instead, put together into 6 'films', so keep that in mind.
For all that the fights are pretty well choreographed and the premise stands out among other mecha, the story has some weird things about it. The strange fan-service between the Queen and the prisoner, the character designs, and so many things are brought up, especially early on, which are left entirely unexplored. I'm thinking specifically about how the main character is supposed to be a broker of peace and the entire subplot about how the terms of surrender were tampered with. In the end, it wants to be bigger than it is and that ambition hurts it.
Also, fights aside, the story is strangely non-visual. And the story can't decide how anti-war is should be, or even if it should be anti-war, but not in an ambiguous way. The end result is very mixed.
